Extra spaces can appear when text is copied from a PDF, web page, spreadsheet or scanned document. They make paragraphs look uneven and can interfere with data pasted into another tool.
The Clean Text preset trims the outside of the text and collapses repeated spaces while preserving intentional line breaks. Choose Custom cleaning for finer control.
How to use this tool
- Paste text containing repeated spaces.
- Use Clean Text or open Custom cleaning and select Collapse extra spaces.
- Check the preview before copying the tidied text.
Why copied text has extra spaces
PDF text extraction, fixed-width layouts and manual editing can introduce repeated spaces or whitespace at line ends. These characters may look harmless but can disrupt search, formatting and spreadsheet cells.
Collapse repeated spaces, keep the layout
Clean Text reduces runs of ordinary spaces and tabs between words to a single space, trims outer whitespace and keeps the existing line structure. Review the output if spacing was being used to align code or columns.
Frequently asked questions
Does removing extra spaces remove line breaks?
No. Clean Text keeps line breaks and paragraph structure while tidying repeated horizontal spaces. Choose the line-break controls separately if needed.
Can I keep spaces used for code indentation?
Yes. Use the Clean for Code preset or choose individual whitespace options and review the output before copying.
