Your text is counted locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server.

Whether writing an essay, preparing an article, crafting a tweet, or drafting a speech, knowing your exact word and character count is essential. This tool provides instant, live counts as you type or paste.

Unlike simplistic counters that only split text by ASCII spaces, our engine handles complex Unicode scripts, hyphens, diacritics, CJK characters, emojis, and varied punctuation with full accuracy.

How to use this tool

  1. Type or paste your text into the editor, or click "Upload .txt" to load an existing file.
  2. Review the live statistics: total words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, lines, and estimated reading time.
  3. Use "Copy Text" to copy the content or "Download .txt" to save your work.

How Reading & Speaking Time is Estimated

Silent reading speed for an average adult typically ranges from 200 to 250 words per minute (WPM). This tool uses an average baseline of 225 WPM to estimate reading time.

Speaking time is calculated at approximately 130 words per minute, which is the standard pace for presentations, keynotes, and podcast delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to a server or stored?

No. All processing happens entirely inside your web browser. Your text never leaves your device and is not saved to any database or clipboard history.

How are words counted across different languages?

The counter uses a robust Unicode regex pattern that accounts for international letters, diacritics, apostrophes, and individual CJK ideographs where words are not delimited by spaces.

Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?

There is no hard server limit since processing runs in memory on your device. You can comfortably analyze tens of thousands of words without lag.
